A Bit of a Lull

I haven't been playing WoW much lately but I thought I'd drop a line anyhow.

So what *have* I been doing? Well aside from studying for my Operations Management, Statistical Optimization Models, and International Business courses (ugh) I've been playing a lovely game by the name of Vanguard.

Sure, it's no WoW, but with the lull in content lately coming out of WoW I figured I'd step it up and pay 30$ a month to run pixels around *two* servers! Kidding aside Vanguard does have some amazing traits. Loads more areas to explore, infinitely more quests, Diplomacy, believable towns/cities, more classes, huge view distances, interesting crafting. In short Vanguard is a lot deeper. It simply has more content and presents players with a much more realistic world. Though it certainly loses out to WoW on performance, character customization(VG has no talent trees, AA points, feats, etc to distinguish your character from others of the same class) and an overall sense of "polish" which WoW possesses an excess of which VG is very much lacking.

Two different styles, really. Both are fun!

I tried out vanguard beta. Not only did it rape my computer in performance (on ANY setting), it also looked like they overdid the models. Personally, I don't need to see every leaf spinning on every swaying tree. My character, when it stealths, doesn't need to have even more shaders applied to it just so it can look like some transparent shell of a humanoid.

And that's where I stopped because my computer couldn't handle it.

I don't think I will ever get into another MMORPG game after WoW. It is just way too much of a time commitment. During school it was fine, because I had tons of free time. I could play several hours a day while doing work during the downing like drinking / flying / raiding. Now having only 3 hours a night between work and sleep (which playing WoW will easily turn to 2 before you even start doing anything productive), I find myself rushing dinner and showers so I don't miss any game time. And if I ever have time to try leveling characters, I'll get about 1/3 of a level in a night... not too exciting if you ask me. Until recently when I bought a 360 and Halo 3, I haven't bought a single other game since The Guy Game for ps2 over a year ago (great game for parties).

Enough of my rant. Vanguard is one of the many MMOs that I've seen or my friends have played. I hear its a pretty fun game, but I'll stick with WoW until its time to move on.

On a side note, Hellgate: London comes out in a few weeks. I'm really excited about that.
